EU3D Lecture on the Future of Europe: To share or not to share

Luiss Guido Carli is organising the second EU3D Lecture on the Future of Europe. The lecture will discuss EU’s difficult passage to risk-sharing in financial policy.

Managing the Eurozone post 2008 financial and fiscal crisis took place in the shadow of the question about risk-sharing. Whereas the no-bail-out clause enshrined in Article 125 TFEU was suspended to tackle the immediate consequences of the crisis, the debate on risk-sharing continues to haunt the Euro members and the EU as a whole. In this Future of Europe Lecture, EU3D Advisory board member Sonja Puntscher Riekmann (University of Salzburg) will address the following questions: Where do we stand today? Why is risk-sharing so controversial? What narratives feed them? What conditions are conducive to cooperation of diverging sections of the European polity? What are viable and legitimate models and options to overcome the conundrum?
