In cooperation with the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) and the EP's Directorate-General for Communication, EU3D organises the seminar 'Democracy in Tomorrow's Europe: Institutional debates, action and tools in the context of the Conference on the Future of Europe' at the Jean Monnet House in Bazoches-sur-Guyonne outside Paris.

The purpose of the seminar is to situate the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE) within the broader context of debate on the future of Europe well beyond the work of the CoFoE. We are interested in finding out more about how the work of the Conference fits on the one hand with what we are uncovering from a varied range of examinations of how Europe’s future is debated and, on the other hand, in relation to a range of EU constitutional models or possible trajectories. The undertaking is intended not only to increase our understanding of the work and future prospects or effects of the CoFoE but at the same time also to situate this event in the broader context of debates on the future of Europe in other forums and other sites; in citizens’ perceptions of integration, fairness and solidarity, and in relation to the work that EU3D is currently undertaking with regard to building a database on future of Europe proposals from a wide range of different sources. Among the questions that we will address are: How to cope with different types of differentiation in the future? How to strengthen European – and member state – democracy and solidarity?

The seminar aims to foster a fruitful and mutually beneficial dialogue and interaction between those who are very close to and follow the proceedings of the CoFoE and researchers who examine the EU’s development and how the EU is debated and understood within parliaments and among citizens.
